There is nothing simple and plain about me. I am very complicated. I am interested in many things, from art to music, dance, reading, writing, science, science fiction, fantasy, poetry, nature, gardening, home renovating, interior decorating, politics, outer space, and inner space. I am the head of a local Star Trek fan group, the USS Ari, and publish a bi-monthly newsletter for our club. I am a Neo-Pagan and Wiccan, and study the many different aspects of my new religion. These include crystals, herbalism, natural healing, Astrology, Tarot, Astral Projection and other topics. I have been studying the occult and metaphysics from the age of 14.

I am a complex person. I love the beauty of nature. I can be at peace in the moonlight, and still enjoy the majesty of a thunderstorm. I am quick to anger, but knowing this, I keep a lot to myself. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt to someone who has "stepped on my toes." So I sit back and analyze the situation. If the behavior is repeated, I will still give that person a chance. But if I see that I am being made a fool of, or taken advantage of, I assert myself. 9 times out of 10, the person backs off. But if they don't and they continue to step on my toes, or start trouble with me: Watch Out! Since I am a peaceful person, I will not start trouble. But if someone starts with me, I will finish it. Abusive people tend to think my peaceful nature is a sign of weakness. Not so.

My astrological sign is Leo, so that makes me a lioness, one of the most ferocious on the planet. I will fight tooth and claw (figuratively, and if necessary, literally) to protect me and mine.
I am a cat person. I love all felines. But I have, on occasion, had canine friends. In the 1990's, one of my furbabies, was a beautiful and affectionate Siberian Husky, who watched over me and my husband, our home, and our feline babies.

Since 1972, I have been employed with a major metropolitan general hospital as a nurse's aide. During my years there, I have worked on just about every nursing unit and service, including 4 years in the Medical Intestive Care Unit, 2 years in the Respiratory Care Unit, 5 years in the Hospice Unit, 5 years on the GYN unit and since the year 2000, I have worked in the Renal (kidney) Transplant unit. I did train as a labor union steward, but declined the job. But my experience in that makes me sought out by many of my colleagues (registerd nurses included) for help and advice in union matters, union contract intrepretations, and help in hospital policy and procedure matters.

I have always had great empathy and compassion for my patients. I have held the hands of those who were approaching death, and have prayed out loud, as they took their last breath. I have comforted the families of the dying patients as well. In my current position on the transplant unit, I have rejoiced with my patients when a suitable matching organ is found and have been saddened when a much anticpated organ proves to be not viable.
In 1985, I suffered a miscarriage, after several years of trying to concieve. I was devasted. But after some counseling, I accepted my loss and got on with my life. While I was on the GYN unit, I encountered mothers who lost their little ones through miscarriage. I comforted them as only another woman who lost her child could. I held them as they cried, and tried to ease their pain, if only a little bit. I will never forget the look of gratitude in their eyes, as if they were saying, "She understands." And I did. For just as I can never understand the pains and joys of childbirth, anyone who has never suffered the loss of a baby, can not understand the pain of that loss.

I am a former professional Middle East "belly" dancer, having studied under Nadia Gamal and Ya Shara, and attended workshops given by Dahlena, the late Ibrahim "Bobby" Farrah, The Sultans, and others. I served on the board of directors of The Beledi Club, an organization of Middle East dancers, and helped organize and performed in our annual Fashion and Dance Shows, and our annual Dinner Dance Shows. I was a member of Troupe Arabesque, a Middle Eastern dance troup that specialized in folkloric dances, as well as the "traditional" popular belly dance. As most of our costumes were handmade, I learned how to do this as well.

Some of the venues that I have danced at, both solo and with Troupe Arabesque, were at the Buffalo Ethnic Heritage Festival; The Friendship Festival (celebrating the friendship between Buffalo and her Canadian sister-city, Fort Erie, Ontario); First Night Buffalo, an annual New Years Eve Family Festival); The Festival of Lights (a three week festival of activities celebrating the December Holiday Season, held in Niagara Falls, NY).I, and Troupe Arabesque have also put on shows for patients at various nursing homes, retirement homes and our local Veteran's Administration Hospital. We even put on a show for a Girl Scout troop mother-daughter event, where they requested "no skin." (Alluding to the most popular and famous "belly dance" outfit). We complied with their request, wearing full folkloric costumes and everyone was delighted and pleased with our performance.

One retirement home's residents and staff were so impressed with our show, that in the spring of 2009, I happened to work with a nurse who worked there. He was doing some moonlighting at our hospital. He said he wasn't working there when we performed there (1988), but he heard about it. Twenty-one years later, and Troupe Arabesque is still getting good reviews

Dealing with people you dislike

This was my response to a topic on a forum I belong to - Earth Based Spirituality

It certainly is a challenge to deal with rude and abusive persons, be they customers (in my case, patients), or co-workers. Or even a rude neighbor. I have always followed the "3 strikes" rule. If somebody crabs at me the first time, I give them the benefit of the doubt. We are all human, and we have all gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. If it happens a second time, I still don't say anything, but I do watch them. If it happens a third time, and if it is appropriate, I will speak up (positve assertiveness) and ask if there is something I have done to make them speak to me so rudely. 9 times out of 10, the person backs off, and we continue peacefully. But there will always be that last person who is an a-hole. And depending on the circumstances, I deal with them as little as possible. I don't respond to their negativity, I ask them to stop, and then I just walk away. I may say hello to them as our shift begins, but I don't really interact with them.I follow that line from Desiderata: "Avoid loud and aggresive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit."

If the person is a co-worker and steps over the line, I may choose to pursue a hostile work environment complaint with my manager and/or human resources.I may choose not to let their negativity affect me, but I won't tolerate continued rudeness, especially after I asked them to stop.Rude neighbors are a difficult bunch. In the inner city, where I live, asking them to stop a certain behavior (loud noise, trespassing, etc) can lead to them going out their way to step it up, just to annoy you. There are a lot of a-holes out there.

forced H1N1 vaccination

Letter to Editor, Buffalo News

October 2, 2009

Dear Editor,

State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines is forcing all hospital workers in NYS to get a woefully inadequately tested H1N1 (swine) flu vaccine by December 1, 2009, or they will be fired from their job!Patients have a bill of rights, One of them is to refuse medical treatment.Health care workers don't have rights. We are being forced to have a foreign substance injected into our bodies. Is this America, the land of freedoms? Not lately. This mandate smacks of Communist Russia.

It is my body, not New York State or Commissioner Daines. I decide what I put into it. I am a 37 year employee of Buffalo General Hospital and am in excellant health. I take steps to keep it that way. I also pay a mortgage and am the major breadwinner in my house. A Catholic priest, Norman Sullivan, was given PROBATION for stealing more than $213,000 from the church collections. That’s right, I said 213 THOUSAND dollars, and the son of a bitch got only probation! He should have gotten jail time.

Apparently, he insisted on counting the collections himself and stole the money between 2000 and 2008 from Most Holy Redeemer Church. He also stole around 1600 from a charitable game. I used to play Bingo at this church hall. I wonder how much money he stole from the Bingo kitty.

He used the money to fix up his house in Colden, New York, and properties he owned in Florida and the Virgin Islands.

So here again we see the HYPOCRISY of the Catholic Church. They preach that their priests are supposed to take a vow of poverty. But this guy owns property in Florida and the Virgin Islands?

This is not the first Catholic priest that I know of that owns houses. How do they get to have houses? Are they earning wages as priests? Enough to buy property in the rich suburbs and other places?

Yet the Catholic Diocese has the nerve to plaster billboards with a sad-looking elderly nun and play the guilt trip on people.

“Remember how she taught you? Now she needs your help. Give to the Catholic Sisters’ Retirement Fund.”

Oh, how typical of the misogynistic Roman Catholic Church. The male priests own property, but the females have to depend on charity.

The other priest I mentioned who owned a house, owned a house in East Aurora, another swanky suburb of Buffalo. He co-owned it with his partner. And they were both gay! I got nothing against gays, but come on! Doesn’t’ the Catholic Church preach against homosexuality? And to top it off, this particular priest turned out to be a child molester.

When the news of that first hit, back in 1988 or 89, I thought, “What? Father John couldn’t possibly harm a child. He was head of the Catholics in the West Seneca Development Center – for mentally challenged people. He loved kids. My cousin and I worked as volunteer religion teachers in the early 70’s under Fr. John. We couldn’t believe that he was a child predator. But the following week, he came on TV and admitted it. We were sick!

So now here we come to why I most pissed off --- these same hypocritical goody-goody two shoes Catholics, who condemn Wiccans and Pagans as immoral Satanists, need to look at themselves and take care of their own evil souls and leave mine alone.

I’m ready for the next time some Christian ninny comes and calls me immoral and a Satanist because I’m a Wiccan and a follower of The Goddess.

I am soooo glad I left that woman-hating religion and answered my true calling.
I’m Pagan and Proud of it. I’m Wiccan and Proud of it. I’m a Witch and Proud of it.

Star Trek colognes

Star Trek Scents
submitted by First Officer Ruth Pace
From The Buffalo News, Sunday, March 29, 2009, by Susan Martin
Star Trek Scents
The world of fragrance is about to boldly go where few have ventured before: the Trekosphere, reports the Chicago Tribune. Maryland-based Genki Wear will release three Star Trek-themed scents April 24—two for men, one for women (about $30 retail). It’s all tied into the May 8 release of J. J. Abrams’ new Star Trek film, chronicling the beginnings of Capt. James T. Kirk and the USS Enterprise. The scents: • “Tiberius” is based on Kirk’s character and carries the tag line “Boldly go.” It is described as “warm vanilla, white musk and sandalwood” base. • “Red Shirt”—with its leather and gray musk aroma—has the tag line, “Because tomorrow may never come.” • And for women, there’s the “Pon Farr” perfume, which refers to the Vulcan mating ritual…and that’s all we’re going to say about that.
First Officer’s Pace’s comments: I read the above article to Crewman John Pace. He is not interested in the scents, as he is not a cologne man. He just dabs a little “Old Spice” on. On rare occasions he will use “Aramis”. I think “Tiberius” will suit him. And I’m not about to buy something called “Red Shirt.” That’s just asking for trouble. I’m looking forward to the “Pon-Farr” scent for me. Mr. Spock, watch out!
It’s interesting that the illustration on the “Tiberius” bottle is the sword through Earth emblem of the Mirror Universe Federation. Boldly go, mmmm? The bottle for “Red Shirt” has a delta shield on it, with what looks like an engineering and ship’s services emblem.
Speaking of Mr. Spock, the article in the Buffalo News was accompanied by a small picture of Leonard Nimoy as Spock from Star Trek The Motion Picture with the caption Dr. Spock. Come on people! It’s been more than 40 years and you still can’t get it right? It’s MISTER Spock, not DOCTOR Spock. Geez! And you call yourselves journalists?

GET RID OF NY GOVERNOR PATTERSON NOW, BEFORE HE RUINS US!!!!

GET RID OF NY GOVERNOR PATTERSON NOW, BEFORE HE RUINS US!!!!

Ok, this man is a taxing idiot. He is tax crazy.A couple of weeks ago, he wanted to tax New Yorkers on bowling games, ski lift rides and a couple of other things. I can't remember right now. Oh boy. Somebody must have had a talk with him, because 2 days later, he changed his mind and said no, he won't tax that stuff.

He came to Niagara Falls a few weeks ago for a Town Meeting. The day before at a press conference, a reporter asked him about some purchases for the governor's mansion in Albany. For example, a $200.00 toaster and a $1500.00 Turkish rug. That SOB says the press conference wasn't the place for that discussion, and the purchase order for those items went out last July.Hey you arrogant SOB anytime a NY resident has a question on how you are spending OUR money IS the appropriate time. And I don't care if the purchase order was made last July or last Tuesday. That is MY tax dollars you are spending, and I and any other NYS resident has the right to question how you spend it.

I kept flipping back and forth about driving up to the Falls for the Town Meeting, and finally decided not to go. But now I wish I had gone, because at the meeting, an angry resident said something about the budget and our governor cracked a joke! Yeah, I wish I had been there! I would have told the bastard off. Won't be the first time I told off an elected official. Our last mayor of Buffalo, T. M. was on the receiving end of a tongue lashing, as was our former Chief of Police R. D. (Never mind it D. who gave me my certificate after I completed my VIABLE training for my Block Club work. (VIABLE - Volunteers in Assisting Buffalo Law Enforcement, training done at the Buffalo Police Academy).

Earlier this week, when the Public Service Commision gave permission for New York Electric to raise their rates, Gov. Patterson said no. So they didn't. So we NY residents got to thinking, "hey thanks Gov!" TWO DAYS LATER: That idiot says he wants to impose more taxes on our gas, electric and phone bills.

NOW he wants to charge us a penny tax on the plastic bags in the stores!Would somebody please throw a shoe at this arsehole???? He can't see, so he won't be able to duck.

We didn't vote for this blind loser. We got stuck with him because our last governor, Eliot Spitzer was forced to resign because of a scandal involving Spitzer and a prostitution ring. Sooo, we traded a sex-pig who got caught financing and using hoes for a blind asshole who is tax happy.I think I'd rather have the sex addict back.

LET'S GET RID OF PATTERSON NOW!

Older People Deserve Respect Too Ya Know!

Okay, I won’t name names, I’m not going to say who wrote it – but I read somebody’s blog and I am appalled.
This young woman who works at a Donut place wrote a rotten piece about “old people.” She says she can’t stand it when old people come into the donut shop. “They can’t count, they take a long time.”
You know this pisses me off Big Fuckin’ Time.
Who are you to judge other people, especially people who have been on this Earth longer than you and know a lot more than you.
So an older person takes a long time? How much time?
I don’t know the blog writer’s work hours, but let’s say she is in the shop for 4 hours. So the older person takes 30 – 60 seconds longer to count out their change or their arthritic fingers prevent them from grasping the little coins. Is the cashier going to get out of the store any faster? She still gonna be there for the duration of her work hours!
So an older person can’t count – neither can a little child – you gonna condemn them too?
How long does it take to help someone? MMMM? 10 – 20 seconds? Oh that is SUCH A BURDEN!! You know helping someone JUST might make you feel better in your heart.
Oh gee- what if a 30 year old person with MS comes in and their disability prevents them getting their change out fast enough for you – you gonna condemn them too with your shallow standards?
Remember Missy, one day YOU too will be old. I hope people will be more kind to you than you are to your older customers.
Why don’t’ you stop looking at your customers as old burdens and look at them as “people.” Why don’t you try looking at them and wondering what they were like when they were your age. I’ll bet they really brought the house down swing dancing to the Big Bands.
Several months ago, one my patients died at the age of 73. I found out that she used to be a Burlesque Dancer, billed as “Miss Tassel.” (wow!) Burlesque Dancers had much more class than today’s “pole dancers,” they didn’t shove their crotch or butt in your face.
Anyway, I saw some of her pictures - - What a gorgeous woman. Absolutely stunning! Oh, how I wish I had seen her back in her day and watched her dance!
But she was an “old” woman when I met her – and because of her age, not that she asked for this to happen to her – she peed her bed. Well, I’m here to say, I am proud to have cleaned up after her!
So what if your older customers take a little extra time in placing their orders and getting their change out – like I said before – you ain’t gonna get out the door any faster. And even if they are encroaching on your quittin’ time – What’s Your Damn Hurry?
“Cos you know what Missy? Time is gonna fly right out from under your ass – 50 years will go by fast and you will find yourself on the receiving end of such insensitivity and you will have earned it baby.
Remember Karma baby - IT’S A BITCH!

Uproar over Dora the Explorer's new look!

from a news service:"Dora the streetwalker. A sexed-up version of a children's icon. A poor example for kids.
Those were just some of the terms tossed around the blogosphere after Mattel released a silhouette of the "new" Dora, whose image was drastically changed from the endearing tomboy look Dora fans grew to love, with her bowl-cut hairdo, T-shirt and red shorts. This new Dora appeared to have long flowing hair, and was wearing what seemed a scanty skirt, emphasizing her long, shapely legs."
Ok, my two cents:First, I'm not a mom. But I do have some brains, and I can't see what the fuss is all about here. This new Dora is cute. A scanty skirt? nope! IT'S A TUNIC TOP! long shapely legs. Oh Puh-leeze! Does your daughter wear thick snow pants at the beach?Get a grip people! Her legs are shaped just like HUMAN LEGS!Mattel says they are not getting rid of the old Dora. There will be two versions. The "tomboy" Dora and the more "girly" Dora. As a former tomboy, I have to say, at some time in a tomboy's life, she needs to grow up and become more feminine. I don't mean slutty either, but a girl should like a girl, not a tramp, but not wearing that disgusting hip-hop look. I see tweens and teens go in both directions. Either their clothes are so tight they look like they're wearing second skins. They have all this makeup on and fake nails. Then others go in the other direction, with the baggy oversized t-shirts.And the "fuller figure" ones (and I mean grown women as well) squeeze their fullness into tight leggings and they bulge out and look disgusting. This Dora looks feminine, without being trashy. She's not wearing excessive jewelry, just a simple necklace, bracelets and cute little earrings. (oh, how many of you moms got your daughter's ears pierced at a young age? mmmmm? I had to wait until I was 18 before my father let me do that!)I don't see any makeup or fake nails on this new Dora either. This Dora is cute, feminine, yet still retains a little-girl look. In fact, with her long hair, she looks like Gina, the little girl featured in the Dennis the Menace comic strip in some Sunday papers. Gina has been around since I think the late 60s, wears a belt, slung low at her hips over a tunic top. Bottom line: get your minds out of the gutter people and let girls mature with a good role model!

The End of the Buffalo Bills?

" sob, please don't take The Bills away from me."

I’m not that much of a sports person, but I do enjoy going to a game now and then. Actually, the last time I went to a Bills game was back in September 1983, where I had to see first hand the Miami Dolphins beat the crap out of us.
But I do have a healthy loyalty to our city’s team. I have not been too favorable with this season’s decision to hold some of our games up in Toronto. I understand that there are some residents in Toronto who support the Bills, but geez, I used to support the Green Bay Packers. Don’t recall the Packers coming to Buffalo to accommodate their fans here.
Now this morning (February 4), there was an announcement on the news that the Bills might be moving to Niagara County and be called the Niagara Bills.
What the f? Although our team and our city has little to do with Buffalo Bill Cody, the term “Buffalo Bill” flows off the lips very neatly. Niagara Bills? Nope, doesn’t flow right, doesn’t sound right. And it ain’t just right!
I got nothing against Niagara Falls, in fact I love the Falls and the city. But our football teams belongs HERE!
And where are they going to play? Are they going to scrap Rich Stadium and build another stadium in Niagara County?
The City of Buffalo is quickly becoming a ghost town. The economy is bad, our lackluster transit system just raised its rates, you can’t find a parking spot downtown and you are inundated by panhandlers left and right all over downtown. Our streets are raggedy, vacant and broken down houses all over the place, gang wars, substance abuse problems galore, ineffective schools, a school board that acts like kids, yet the leader gets paid millions.
But one of the bright spots is our sports teams. If we lose our sports franchises, we will lose a lot. Yeah, yeah, I know, our teams are losers. Can’t seem to win any blasted Super Bowls and we let that Stanley Cup slip out of our hands.
Back in the 90’s when we had that Super Bowl Losing Streak, the Bills became known as “The Buffalo Boy I Love Losing Superbowls.” But we love them anyway!
But we need our team. Seems to be the only thing we got going for us!

Just talking and ranting and praising TAPS/GHOSTHUNTERS
GhostHunters - TAPS
Sometime last summer, I was flipping through channels and came upon GhostHunters on Sci-Fi Channel. What a wierd ass show I thought. But I continuted watching and quickly became hooked. TAPS - The Atlantic Paranormal Society started their show 5 years ago. (where the hell have I been? oh yeah - picking up the pieces from my ex best friend and her filthy lies. {she knows who she is and what I am capable of] and the bullshit from the Nazi's down at CPS).
Anyways, better late than never, I am now a rabid GH-TAPS fan. John doesn't like it. So on Wednesday evenings he vacates the living room, leaving me in charge of the remote and the TV. heh heh.
However, TWICE, both times when TAPS was in Buffalo I missed it. Both the actual visit and the airing of the shows! TAPS investigated Buffalo's Central Terminal, of where my grandfather used to work (both my grandfather's and a couple of uncles worked for the railroad). And my Dad spent a lot of time at Central Terminal, and I lived not-too-far from it in the early 80s..Still don't live too far, just another neighborhood and quite close to where TAPS had their other Buffalo investigation, a old church in Lovejoy. And I still haven't seen these shows.
I'd have TAPS come and investigate my haunted house, only it's not haunted anymore. It was when we first moved in it in 1987, but in 92, the Old Polack moved on. I guess he saw his house is in good hands.
Well, Jason Hawes of TAPS/GhostHunters is now a myspace pal of mine. (welcome Jason to LadyMoondancer's Realm on Myspace!) I always welcome new friends. I may not have a lot of time to send comments. I've been busy busy busy.
Got a new porch on the house last summer. sucker cost FOUR THOUSAND BUCKS! so I gots to puts in the overtime! Still have to replace the garage that lost its roof in the October 06 storm. But the city FINALLY tore the crappy house next door to mine. Once we acquire the lot we've got to get it landscaped, and finish renovating our house.
Any of my friends here on myspace who don't watch Ghosthunters, I highly recomend it. TV is sure crappy lately. I pay 60 bucks a month for cable only to shown the same dam movies over and over and over. for example: AMC showed The Good, the Bad and the Ugly THREE FRIGGIN TIMES IN 12 HOURS!
With thousands of movies to choose from, would AMC, FX and TNT/TBS PLEASE STOP SHOWING THE SAME FUCING MOVIES OVER AND OVER?????
Screw you cable tv, I ordered the DVD of a great old mini-series last week: a 1976 adaptation of Taylor Caldwell's The Captains and the Kings. HA HA,
And a couple of months ago, I got the DVD of the 1978 mini series of James Michener's Centennial. Next I'll get Shogun. - I still have to read that dam book. With all my DVDs , I don't need cable tv. I'm sick of watching the same movies and the same stooopid crap. And would VH1 and MTV go figure out that they started as MUSIC television and VIDEO HITS and play some damed music? Bret Michaels may be handsome, but I don't wanna see his harem. And the one dumb bimbo who fell and busted her tit implant!!!
And we wonder why people in Third World countries are laughing at us.
speaking of working overtime, my boss just called me and wanted me to work today. toDAY! I laughed at him. Look, I work night shift, I do NOT do day shift. I am a vampire, I work only at night. I may be able to get up and go shopping and banking during the day time, but when it comes to working, I do better in the moonlight! sorry boss!

Welcome to LadyMoondancer's Realm

Since both MSN groups and AOL Hometown have decided to close their services, I will have to transfer all my stuff here.
